Illustrative scenario

Engineering plant: energy monitoring

Know where and when electricity is used to cut the bill on evidence.

This is an illustrative scenario with a hypothetical plant, not an Uptrol customer. The figures are estimates from the assumptions listed below, not achieved results.

Industry
Machining, pressing, painting
Assumed size
1 main board, 12 sub-boards, electricity bill about 600 million VND/month (assumed)
Scope
Energy monitoring, abnormal consumption alerts
Estimated rollout time
3–6 weeks

Estimated benefits

12–30 million VNDBill reduction per month
Headline estimate144–360 million VNDBill reduction per year
13Energy measuring points
See how we calculated

Assumptions

Electricity bill per month600 million VND
Reduction from switching off idle loads and shifting loads to off-peak hours2–5%
Sub-boards with meters12

Calculation

  • 600 million VND × 2–5% = 12–30 million VND
  • 12–30 million VND × 12 months = 144–360 million VND
  • 12 sub-boards + 1 main board = 13

Actual savings depend on which loads each plant can switch off or move; the system provides data for decisions and does not control equipment.

Context

The hypothetical plant only knows its monthly total. Some sub-boards already have multifunction meters that nobody reads centrally.

There are signs that compressors, air conditioning and dryers run outside production hours, but no data.

What Uptrol deploys

  • Connect existing multifunction meters; add meters where missing
  • Energy per feeder and per tariff period
  • Alerts for consumption outside production, low power factor, phase imbalance
  • Weekly and monthly reports; energy per part when combined with machine data

Architecture

  1. 01Modbus RTU multifunction meters in the boards
  2. 02Gateway in the electrical room: reads every minute, buffers
  3. 03Uptrol platform: allocation, comparison, alerts
  4. 04Reports for the facilities team and management

Steps

  1. 01Survey the electrical layoutIdentify large loads, existing meters, where to add meters.
  2. 02Install and connectDuring breaks or planned shutdowns.
  3. 03ReconcileCompare the sum of feeders with the utility meter.
  4. 04Alerts and reportsAfter-hours thresholds, reports by tariff period.
